History of the groupThe earliest records that can be traced back to the 1950's where a small group of boys formed together and became 1st Roade Scout Group. Rev. Norman Husbands started scouts for boys in the village in the Church Institute hall, on the High Street in Roade. Over the years the group disbanded a couple of times, each time due to lack of leaders to run the group. Success was achieved in the 1980's when the current group was formed and is still growing strong. The Scout section and the Cub section started within a couple of years of each other, and in the early 1990's Beaver Scouts for younger children began. Today all sections are thriving and meet regularly at the Village Hall on a Friday. |
